The wealthy businessman Dai Jiale then lures Ahua into withdrawing from the romantic rivalry. Ahua exposes the scheme, leading to mutual attacks between the two men. Observing from the sidelines, Cherie gradually awakens and ultimately breaks free from male control to pursue her own self. As Tan Jiaming's sole attempt at comedy, the film uses a tableau of petty-bourgeois life to depict the battle of the sexes, highlighting female subjectivity.
